The Los Angeles Police Department is set to bolster its presence across the city following the initiation of airstrikes by the United States and Israel on Iran early Saturday morning.

Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles announced the heightened police presence, acknowledging the widespread concern among residents. “Many Angelenos are affected and deeply worried,” she stated.

Bass’s office released a statement emphasizing their vigilance: “We are actively monitoring any potential threats to Los Angeles’ public safety in light of the Middle Eastern military developments.”

“Although there are currently no credible threats identified, the LAPD has increased patrols in proximity to places of worship, community hubs, and other key areas. Our commitment to safeguarding the city remains steadfast,” the statement continued.

This announcement coincides with planned protests in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, where demonstrators are expected to express their opposition to the military actions.

A coalition of organizations, including the Democratic Socialists of America, the National Iranian American Council, and American Muslims for Palestine, is organizing a “national day of action” at City Hall, scheduled for 2 p.m.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services also issued an alert saying it was “closely monitoring the evolving situation in Iran and the surrounding region.”

“Our homeland security and emergency management teams are working with federal partners to prepare for any impacts here at home,” the office stated.

The heightened security follows a wave of demonstrations against the Iranian regime in recent months across Southern California.

Tens of thousands gathered in downtown LA for a “Global Day of Action” on Feb. 14 to show solidarity with protesters inside Iran.
