Comedian Andy Dick has candidly shared details about a harrowing experience last year when he nearly died from a crack cocaine overdose on a busy street in Los Angeles.
The 59-year-old funnyman revealed on the “Howie Mandel Does Stuff” podcast Tuesday that his heart did in fact stop beating during the incident on Dec. 9, 2025. He said that he does not really remember much about it, but that he was told he stopped breathing and that he was turning “purple.”
Reflecting on the incident, Dick recalls only one thing: “waking up in the ambulance.” He noted that there were “no bright lights” during the ordeal.
Following this event, medical professionals conducted a brain scan revealing “about five to seven holes” in his brain, which have impacted his memory.
Known for his role on “NewsRadio,” Dick, whose real name is Andrew Thomlinson, has been open about his ongoing battle with addiction. His recent conversation with Mandel occurred roughly three months after a video captured him slumped and unresponsive in Hollywood, wearing a brown jacket, Crocs, and pajama pants. His iconic glasses were seen on the ground nearby, next to an open canned drink.
Witnesses reportedly rushed to assist him, with one individual administering Narcan—a drug that reverses opioid overdoses—which successfully revived him.
Currently, Dick resides in a sober living facility where he is strictly prohibited from using any substances.
“They drug test you,” he said. “I’m not high. I don’t take pills. I don’t do anything except coffee.”
Dick, the father of three adult children with a third grandchild on the way, added that he is doing his best to stay sober and healthy for his family.
“I have to, buddy. I just have to,” he told Mandel. “Do you know how hard it is for me?”
