Man who opened fire near Santa Clarita school emerges pantless after standoff

A gun-wielding individual unleashed chaos near a Southern California elementary school, eventually barricading himself inside a house and later emerging without pants after a tense standoff with a SWAT team.

Authorities were alerted around 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday to a man experiencing a crisis in the Saugus area of Santa Clarita. The situation escalated when the man began shooting at an unoccupied vehicle, as reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incident.

After the initial gunfire, the suspect retreated into a residence, prompting lockdowns at nearby schools, including one directly across the street. Local residents were also evacuated for safety.

Law enforcement established a secure perimeter and activated crisis response procedures, according to the sheriff’s statement.

In dramatic footage captured by Fox 11, a significant firearm could be seen lying on the sidewalk in front of the suspect’s location.

The suspect eventually emerged around 11 a.m. wearing a T-shirt, a hat — and no pants — with his hands in the air before officers moved in and made an arrest.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony negligent discharge of a firearm near a school, Sgt. Juan Muralles told The Signal.

The suspect’s identity has not been released.
