WATCH: Hulu releases trailer for 'The Testaments,' a 'The Handmaid's Tale' spinoff starring Chase Infiniti and Ann Dowd

Hulu has unveiled an exciting new trailer for “The Testaments,” offering a fresh continuation of the gripping saga that unfolds in the dystopian world of Gilead. This series picks up where “The Handmaid’s Tale” left off, inviting viewers back into the chilling narrative crafted by Margaret Atwood.

Drawing from Atwood’s acclaimed novel, “The Testaments” centers on the journeys of two young protagonists—Agnes, who is raised within the confines of Gilead and embodies its devout principles, and Daisy, an outsider who becomes a convert to the regime. Their stories intersect at Aunt Lydia’s prestigious preparatory school, designed to groom future wives. Here, the school enforces obedience through harsh and divinely justified measures. As their lives intertwine, the two teenagers become pivotal figures in a movement that challenges the oppressive order of their world.

Fans of the original series will be pleased to see Ann Dowd reprise her haunting role as Aunt Lydia, a character whose complex morality continues to captivate audiences. Joining the cast are several fresh faces, including Chase Infiniti, known for “One Battle After Another,” who takes on the role of Agnes. The ensemble also features Lucy Halliday, Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya, and Kira Guloien.

The trailer opens with a glimpse into Agnes’s seemingly perfect life in Gilead. Through her narration, she reflects, “Back then, we still believed in this world. I guess it’s easier to accept a story than believe that the people around you are monsters,” hinting at the underlying darkness that permeates the society. This sets the stage for a gripping tale of rebellion and transformation.

The trailer begins following Agnes (Infiniti) through a seemingly idyllic Gilead.

“Back then, we still believed in this world. I guess it’s easier to accept a story than believe that the people around you are monsters,” she narrates, until a darker version of Gilead is revealed.

Soon, Daisy (Halliday) shows up to school. She’s a new arrival from Canada, hoping to “save those girls” in Gilead. Agnes and Daisy’s bond starts to cause tension among the girls.

“There comes a time when you have to take action, when you have to choose your own destiny,” Daisy tells Agnes as drama unfolds and the stakes rise.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller returns. Executive producers are Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Mike Barker. Barker directs the first three episodes and the finale.

In January, Hulu released a first look at the show through a series of images.

“The Testaments” premieres April 8 with three episodes, then weekly thereafter. The Hulu original series will be available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu, Disney+ and this ABC station.
