Dem candidate lobbed N-word in resurfaced social media posts

A Democratic contender for Congress, who has previously accused rivals of racism, possesses a controversial past on social media marked by racial slurs and derogatory remarks about women, as uncovered by The Post.

Ammar Campa-Najjar, who has campaigned for Congress three times and is romantically linked to Qualcomm heiress Rep. Sara Jacobs, has been documented using the N-word in interactions on MySpace and Facebook with acquaintances, according to screenshots reviewed by The Post.

In a 2009 exchange, Campa-Najjar responded to a friend with, “Yeah, my cell still works, and maybe we can pick your n—r ass up.”

He further commented, “Or I can ask immigration to give you a ride, we’ll see,” addressing the same friend who has a Hispanic surname.

Campa-Najjar’s MySpace page, accessible as of last Friday, includes a photo captioned, “waiting for you to drowned in my love n—a.”

Additional Facebook interactions reveal a friend using similar language: “I miss ya n—y,” the friend wrote in 2010.

“Awe, same here bud. We should hangout, what are you doing for Halloween?” Campa-Najjar replied.

The Facebook profile was publicly accessible this month, but has since been made private. The profile was still listed in the “Contact” section of Campa-Najjar’s LinkedIn profile as of Friday.

Campa-Najjar — a graduate of San Diego State University and Navy Reserve officer who was slammed for inflating his military credentials this week — also joked with his father that his female college classmates were ridden with sexually transmitted diseases.

“Hello son. Good for you SDSU. Lots of pretty girls,” Yasser M. Alnajjar wrote in 2010.

“Yeah a lot of infected girls too,” Campa-Najjar shot back. “That’s why SDSU has the nickname STDSU.”

Campa-Najjar, who has run two failed campaigns for Congress with the help of his wealthy’s girlfriend’s family, has labeled opponents racist for calling attention to the fact that he previously went by a different name.

His campaign accused Democratic primary opponent, Marni von Wilpert, of “false and racist attacks” in an email after she tested messaging about his names in a polling memo. Campa-Najjar previously went by Ammar Yasser Najjar before changing his name to include his mother’s name, according to PBS.

Former Rep. Duncan Hunter, who defeated Campa-Najjar in 2018, ran attack ads insinuating that Campa-Najjar, who is of mixed Mexican and Palestinian heritage and whose grandfather was a Palestinian militant, had terrorist ties.

Cammpa-Najar issued a statement The Post saying he didn’t recall using a slur in a social media post but suggested the posts came from a place of insecurity.

“As a Palestinian and Mexican American who has been on the receiving end of racial slurs since childhood, I hate them and the harm they cause,” Cammpa-Najar wrote in an email. “I know what this language does to a person, and the words on this page do not reflect my values.”

He continued: “While I don’t recall writing this nearly 20 year old post, I was once an insecure young man trying to belong who said stupid things to impress friends.

“These are words I find abhorrent and I recognize the painful history. I’m not asking you to excuse stupid things written on MySpace decades ago, I’m asking you to have faith in the man I’ve become through life’s hard-earned lessons.

“If you allow me the privilege, I’ll spend each day in Congress fighting for you and your family as if it were my own — both in word and deed.”

Campa-Najjar worked for roughly one year as a public affairs officer at the US Department of Labor during the final year of former President Barack Obama’s tenure, according to his Linkedin.

He is currently assigned to a public affairs unit at the Naval Reserve after joining in 2023.

Campa-Najjar was torn apart by military veterans this week for calling himself a Navy Officer and staging a photo op at a deceased war veteran’s grave.

Political candidates who are military members are required to accurately state their reserve status and to refrain from campaign activity at memorial sites.

“Ammar is a proud Navy Reserve Officer who has been on active duty status throughout periods of his career, including in the Phillipines, as well as at Pacific Fleet Head Quarters and Fort Meade,” his campaign said.

His campaign for California’s 48th congressional district is his fourth campaign — having lost two congressional races in 2018 and 2020 and a race for mayor of Chula Vista in 2022.

Campa-Najjar has also been slammed for political flip-flops, first running as a lefty before embracing right-wing positions in his 2020 campaign. He is now running as a liberal Democrat against Republican Jim Desmond and fellow Dem Marni Von Wilpert.
