Authorities have apprehended a man following an incident in Derby, England, where a car struck multiple pedestrians on Saturday night, according to police statements on Sunday.

The episode unfolded at around 9:30 p.m. GMT, resulting in several individuals sustaining injuries, with some reported to be in serious condition. Emergency responders provided immediate on-site medical care before transporting the injured to local hospitals for further treatment.

Law enforcement officials quickly intercepted the vehicle suspected to be involved in the incident. The driver, a man in his 30s, was taken into custody and remains detained for questioning.

“We understand the community’s concern,” police assured the public. “However, we want to emphasize that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.”
