Florida man Stephen Bowen admitted to killing wife Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen with shotgun

The shocking murder of Florida’s Democratic Party vice chair by her husband has left many stunned. Stephen Bowen confessed to his uncle that he killed his wife, Nancy Metayer Bowen, claiming he “couldn’t take it anymore.” Despite the harrowing act, he managed to keep it hidden from her concerned colleagues.

According to arrest documents cited by WPLG, Bowen allegedly used a pillowcase as a makeshift silencer to fire three shotgun rounds into the 38-year-old Coral Springs Vice Mayor inside their home late Tuesday night. After the fatal act, he reportedly wrapped Nancy’s body in blankets and a garbage bag, leaving her upstairs while he slept on the ground floor.

The following morning, around 10 a.m., Bowen fled to his uncle’s residence. There, he confessed to having harmed his wife, telling his uncle that she was no longer alive. Pressed for more details, Bowen admitted to shooting Nancy and attempting to cover up the crime.

In a bizarre turn, Bowen asked his uncle to keep a gun bag for a couple of weeks, cautioning him to use gloves or a bag when handling it. The chilling details of this case continue to unfold, as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Bowen’s uncle pushed for his nephew to elaborate on what happened when he copped to shooting his wife and covering up the body.

Bowen attempted to get his uncle to hold onto a gun bag for a couple of weeks, “but warned him that he would need a pair of gloves or a bag,” according to WPLG.

“When asked why (he killed her), Stephen Bowen said that he ‘couldn’t take it anymore,’” the report stated.

The day before Bowen allegedly told his mom that he had a “panic attack at work” and needed to talk to his wife that night.

In the morning after the tragedy, Bowen pretended he didn’t know where his wife was, while concerned City Hall staffers reached out to inquire about her whereabouts when she failed to arrive for an early meeting.

“Hi Stephen! Luwam here. I’m trying to reach Nancy. Can you pls ask her to call me?” Coral Springs Commission Relationship Manager Luwam Ghermay wrote to Bowen.

Ghermay had received a message from the vice mayor’s number at around 8 a.m. regarding “Discussion Items.”

It wasn’t known if the initial message had been sent by Bowen or if his wife had scheduled to send it before her death.

“Texted her,” Bowen replied. “She is not picking up.

“Where is she? Her car is not at home,” he added, according to the US Sun.

Police arrived at the couple’s Coral Springs home at 10:20 a.m. but didn’t answer until after speaking with the uncle around 2 p.m., when he revealed the gruesome crime scene inside.

Officials had tracked Bowen down to an apartment complex in nearby Plantation, where he was found handing off the gun bag and ammo boxes to a fellow Freemason, police said.

The unidentified Mason was unaware of the murder until Bowen and he were taken into custody, and Bowen shouted: “Oh s–t, they’re here for me.”

Bowen was charged with first-degree premeditated murder and felony evidence tampering charges.

He is being held in the Broward County Jail without a bond, according to jail records viewed by The Post.

Metayer Bowen was weeks away from announcing her candidacy for Congress before her death, Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz wrote on X.
