Huntington Beach transformed into a sea of cuteness on Saturday as an annual event for corgis took over the coastline. This beloved gathering of these charming, short-legged dogs is a highlight for owners and fans alike.
The lively atmosphere at SoCal Corgi Beach Day saw hundreds of energetic corgis, accompanied by their enthusiastic owners, enjoying a day filled with fun and camaraderie by the ocean.
Dubbed “the biggest corgi party on the planet,” this event has evolved significantly since its inception in 2012. What began as a modest assembly of 15 corgis has blossomed into a vibrant canine celebration, attracting thousands of these delightful dogs twice a year.
This year’s theme, “Tiki Beach Pawty,” also known as “Big Corg-huna Energy,” brought a tropical flair to the festivities, making it an even more colorful spectacle.
Throughout Saturday, these charismatic pups eagerly fetched balls and sprinted along the shoreline, all while donning an array of playful outfits. From Dodgers caps and tiny sombreros to Easter bunny ears and oversized ski goggles, their attire added to the fun.
In addition to the lively games, some corgis and their owners indulged in relaxing activities, including yoga sessions, massages, and soaking up the mellow Southern California vibes.
Guests enjoyed fare from local food trucks and a “Corgi Marketplace,” with vendors selling pet supplies, gifts and treats.Â
The event’s highlights included the Corgi Costume Contest, Best Corgi Butt, Corgi Limbo and the Corgonut Pie Eating Contest.
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are a herding breed from Wales whose name means “dwarf dog,” with folklore claiming the dogs were once the steeds of fairies and elves.
Known for their friendly personalities and intelligence, corgis have royal cred, too: Queen Elizabeth II owned more than 30 in her lifetime, helping catapult the breed to worldwide fame.
Today, Pembroke Welsh Corgis rank among the top 20 most popular dogs in the US.
