In a dramatic incident early Saturday morning, a vehicle careened off a bridge in Tulsa, plummeting onto an interstate below and leaving a 1-year-old child injured. The crash forced authorities to close the highway as emergency teams swiftly responded to the urgent situation.
According to the Tulsa Police Department, the accident occurred around 5:08 a.m. near Southwest Boulevard. Officers arrived to find the vehicle overturned on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 244. The car had crashed through a fence and fallen from an overpass, creating a chaotic scene on the interstate.
Amid the wreckage, dispatchers reported hearing the cries of a child, adding urgency to the rescue efforts. Inside the vehicle were a 17-year-old driver, an 18-year-old passenger, and the aforementioned 1-year-old child, police confirmed.

Investigators revealed that the young driver had failed to stop at a stop sign. Subsequently, he was unable to navigate a slight curve, causing the car to hit a curb. This impact launched the vehicle airborne over a drainage ditch, culminating in the unfortunate accident.
The 17-year-old did not stop at a stop sign before he failed to make a turn in the slight curve in the road, striking a curb that sent the car airborne over a drainage ditch, police said.

The vehicle then crashed through a barrier and dropped onto the interstate below.

Authorities said the child was not in a car seat and was injured but is expected to recover after being taken to a hospital.

Police and highway patrol officers shut down lanes of the interstate to allow firefighters and EMS crews to reach the wreckage.
The crash remains under investigation, and charges against the driver are possible.
