Bill Maher rips into Trump over 'Groundhog Day' Iran war

Comedian Bill Maher has taken aim at Donald Trump, criticizing the former President for allegedly boasting about a ‘victory’ in the Iran conflict that remains elusive.

During Friday’s episode of his late-night show, Maher remarked that Trump’s comments regarding the ongoing Middle East conflict seem to echo a familiar narrative week after week.

“It’s starting to feel a bit like Groundhog Day, don’t you think?” Maher quipped.

He humorously compared the situation to a tumultuous Florida divorce, saying, “We’re capturing their boats, they’re capturing ours.”

The host’s comments come in the context of the US-Iran conflict, which ignited on February 28 following joint US-Israeli airstrikes that resulted in the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Maher criticized Trump for repeatedly declaring victory, stating, “He keeps claiming we’ve won, but that’s not the case.”

‘Hormuz is not open, the people did not do an uprising, the regime is still in place,’ he said.

‘We did not win,’ Maher added. ‘Sorry.’

During his monologue, Maher also lambasted Trump’s social media presence, saying that he publishes ‘stuff that’s inflammatory and contradictory.’

Just moments later, Maher proceeded to rip the US President’s posts as ‘bulls*** claims.’

‘You can say what you want about his negotiating tactics,’ Maher said. ‘One tactic you can’t get him on is the silent treatment.’

He added: ‘Turns out, the one thing we are really good at is killing their leaders who are too stupid to go underground when we’re trying to kill them.’

Maher referenced rising gas prices across the US, which have skyrocketed in wake of the war.

Nearly 70 percent of Americans are concerned about high gas and fuel prices due to the Iran war, according to a Pew Research Center survey published April 7.

‘It was Earth Day this week but we found out we still use a lot of oil,’ Maher said. ‘Nobody can afford gas.’

Maher also noted how condoms could become more expensive due to the conflict in the Middle East.

He alluded to the affair rumors surrounding New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and NFL reporter Dianna Russini while doing so.

‘They’re getting trapped in the Strait of Hormuz, so condoms are now very scarce and very expensive,’ Maher said. ‘More bad news for Mike Vrabel.’

‘The condom situation is so serious that we are changing the name from Operation Epic Fury to the Trojan War,’ he continued.

The world’s leading condom producer, Karex, told Reuters it could raise prices by up to 30 percent if supply chain disruptions continue.

Maher’s Friday remarks about Trump and the Iran war were just his latest about the conflict, which he has regularly discussed on his late night show.

Earlier this month, Maher mocked Trump’s ceasefire deal with Iran.

‘Apparently, this agreement we have, we have to save face and not kill everybody in Iran by pretending that [the Strait of Hormuz] is open,’ he said.

Earlier today, Trump cancelled US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s trip to Pakistan for Iran peace negotiations.

‘Too much time wasted on traveling, too much work!’ Trump posted Saturday on Truth Social.

Trump added: ‘Besides which, there is tremendous infighting and confusion within their “leadership.”

‘Nobody knows who is in charge, including them. Also, we have all the cards, they have none! If they want to talk, all they have to do is call!!!’

He had previously told Fox News about the trip being canceled and the US holding ‘all the cards’ over Iran.
