A 63-year-old ex-police officer is facing charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice, though she has yet to enter a plea.
During her court appearance, she was dressed in prison attire and was seen diligently taking notes as her legal representative sought her release on bail.
The court denied the bail request, indicating that she will remain incarcerated for two months unless she pursues a bail application in the state’s highest court.
The allegations against her involve attempts to sway the testimony of a witness in the trial of her son, who also has a background in law enforcement.
Her son, Lamarre-Condon, is accused of using his service weapon to fatally shoot TV host Jesse Baird and Baird’s partner, flight attendant Luke Davies, at their Sydney residence in February 2024.
Prosecutors claim that the former officer subsequently concealed the victims’ bodies in surfboard bags and disposed of them at a rural location in Bungonia, near Goulburn.
The men’s bodies were found eight days later after an extensive search.
Lamarre-Condon, who briefly dated Baird, has pleaded not guilty to their murders.
He joined the force in 2019 and was the first serving NSW police officer charged with murder in decades.
The then-senior constable was charged and eventually sacked by NSW Police after handing himself in.
He faces two counts of domestic violence-related murder, and aggravated break and enter. His case will return to court later this month.
The proceedings have become one of the state’s most high-profile criminal cases in recent years, with suggestions hundreds of witnesses may be called to testify at trial.
In a previous hearing, Lamarre-Condon said he opposed any orders for a closed court at his trial, adding he “will not be silenced”.
