Longtime owner of NYC kosher bakery, 75, found shot to death along Queens shoreline

Authorities have reported the tragic death of a respected elder from the Jewish community, known for his longstanding role as a bakery owner. Albert Itzkowitz, 75, was discovered shot dead along the serene shoreline of Kissena Lake in Queens.

The New York Police Department revealed that officers found Itzkowitz’s body around 5:00 p.m. on Monday in Flushing. He had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to his neck and back, and was declared dead at the scene. The exact duration that Itzkowitz’s body remained by the lake is still undetermined.

Itzkowitz was well-regarded not only for his business but also for his dedication to service. He volunteered with Hatzolah, a Jewish emergency medical service, as reported by Yeshiva World News. His bakery, G&I Kosher Bakery, was a beloved fixture on Main Street for many years until it eventually closed.

In keeping with Jewish traditions, volunteers from Chesed Shel Emes were present to oversee the arrangements for Itzkowitz’s funeral, ensuring that he received a respectful burial, as further noted by the Orthodox Jewish news outlet.

Itzkowitz also owned the G&I Kosher Bakery on Main Street, a neighborhood institution for several years before it shut down, the Orthodox Jewish outlet said.
