'I think she would be a good president'

In a recent interview, former First Lady Jill Biden expressed her surprise over then-Vice President Kamala Harris’s defeat to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. She shared her thoughts on CBS News’ “Sunday Morning,” highlighting her belief that Harris still possesses the qualities of a good president.

Speaking with interviewer Rita Braver, Jill Biden revealed her confidence in Harris’s chances for victory, explaining, “I was certain she was going to win.” This sentiment was met with surprise from Braver, who questioned the former first lady’s certainty.

“The excitement for her, the crowds, and the way people rallied around her made me truly believe she was going to win,” Biden elaborated. “I was shocked she didn’t win because I think she would have made a good president.”

Reflecting on the election night, Biden recalled her disbelief, saying, “I went to bed, and I just couldn’t believe that she had lost.”

Kamala Harris, who is seen as a strong contender for the 2028 Democratic nomination, made history as the first nominee from her party in two decades to lose the popular vote. Donald Trump secured 326 Electoral College votes, marking the highest for a Republican candidate since George H.W. Bush’s victory in 1988.
