After Pulse: 10 years of healing and change

ORLANDO, Fla. — News 6 brought the community together for an in-person forum led by anchor Julie Broughton, where LGBTQ+ residents, allies, advocates, and other local voices spoke candidly about healing, visibility, changing culture, community bonds, and the work that remains in Central Florida in the years since Pulse.

The discussion examined how LGBTQ+ people and their supporters have united, adapted, and continued moving forward since the Pulse tragedy. It opened with a moment of reflection on the memories tied to Pulse and the enduring impact of June 12, 2016, including how that day reshaped lives, families, Orlando, and the broader community.

Mental health was also a key part of the conversation, as professionals addressed the long-term effects of shared grief and talked about the continuing path toward healing.

Panelists considered what has changed over the last decade while also sharing their hopes for the years ahead. The conversation focused on cultural change, the current political environment, allyship, advocacy, and the ongoing obstacles facing the LGBTQ+ community today.

Audience members were invited to join the conversation in real time by submitting questions, posting comments, and taking part in the discussion throughout the event.
