California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday claimed that President Trump has ordered the Justice Department to scrutinize the governor and his relatives, leveling the accusation in a fiery post on social media.
According to Newsom, federal authorities have begun examining the activities of both the governor and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, along with other family members, in what he described as political payback. The allegation comes as Newsom is reportedly considering a presidential bid ahead of leaving office early next year due to term limits.
“In recent days, federal agents have knocked on the doors of family, friends, and former employees, not because they found a crime, because they’re simply trying to find one,” Newsom said in a video shared on X.
He continued, “They’re demanding records, they’re abusing the grand jury process, digging through years and years of random documents. Donald Trump isn’t just coming after me because of my mean tweets, he’s coming after me because I’m considering running for president, because he hates that I’ve consistently called him out over and over again for his lies and deceit.”
Newsom also intensified his criticism by declaring, “Donald Trump is simply the most corrupt president in American history.”
The White House did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
