At least one person was shot and another person was taken into custody Saturday after authorities rushed to Deerbrook Mall in Humble, Texas, following reports of an active shooter.
Deputies with the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 4 said they responded to the shopping center with the Humble Police Department. The mall is located in the 20100 block of U.S. Highway 59.
“At this time, one victim has been reported shot, and one person has been detained,” the constable’s office said in a statement. “Law enforcement officers remain on scene as the investigation continues.”

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies were assisting other law enforcement agencies as crews worked to secure the mall.
“Please avoid the area and follow the directions of law enforcement personnel,” the sheriff’s office said. “Our deputies are working alongside our law enforcement partners to help secure the scene and protect the public.”

Officials did not immediately release details on the victim’s condition. Authorities also had not said whether investigators were looking for any additional suspects.
Police scanner traffic indicated officers were clearing the mall and evacuating stores, though officials have not publicly confirmed those details.
