Momentum is building for Port Washington Little League.
The Nassau County boys of summer are just one win from claiming the New York state championship, a year after their run ended in a painful semifinal loss at the state tournament.
“It’s a true team,” manager David Gabriel told The Post. “Every kid is contributing to where we are today. It’s really just something special.”
The state final is set for Friday at 7 p.m. in West Nyack, where Long Island and Staten Island will square off for the title.
Port Washington will face Mid-Island Little League with a chance to move one step closer to the Little League World Series.
The winner will represent New York in the Little League World Series regional tournament in Bristol, Conn., where it will meet top teams from New Jersey, Rhode Island and Connecticut in games broadcast on ESPN.
The regional champion then advances as the Metro region representative to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
Port Washington powered its way into the final with a five-run third inning that sparked a 6-1 semifinal win over Twin Town, NY. Mid-Island was equally convincing, rolling past Florida, NY, 11-1 in a five-inning matchup.
Both squads are evenly matched at 2-1 in tournament play. Port has allowed 10 runs overall and Mid-Island nine.
“We’re playing up against a really good Staten Island team,” Gabriel said. “We’re going to have to play our best baseball.”
Isles streetball
The Islanders and the KP21 Foundation of Kyle Palmieri (below) will be inviting several dozen children of military families for a free streetball clinic at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.
