PORTAGE, Ind. () — Severe storms that tore through northwest Indiana this week have left tens of thousands of homes and businesses in the dark, creating widespread power outages across the region.
The lack of electricity is complicating cleanup efforts as residents begin assessing damage, clearing debris and trying to move forward after the storms.
By Thursday morning, more than 260,000 NIPSCO customers were without service, marking the largest outage event the utility has ever recorded.
