Candace Cameron Bure breaks down in tears over 'constant criticism'

Candace Cameron Bure became emotional as she opened up about years of online criticism targeting what some detractors have called her “annoying voice.”

During Tuesday’s episode of The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast, the 50-year-old Full House star reached for tissues while reflecting on painful comments she has seen about herself on the internet.

“I get a lot of criticism for my voice,” Bure told her audience, explaining that people frequently remark on how “annoying” they find the way she speaks.

The actress and podcast host recalled one particularly cutting remark from a viewer who claimed they had to “turn off” the television because Bure’s voice was “so annoying.”

As she wiped away tears, Bure said the repeated comments about her voice have been “constant” and difficult to absorb over time.

Still, Bure shared that one practice has helped her push back against that insecurity: reading Bible verses aloud on social media, which she said has given her strength and confidence.

‘I’ve never had more people say to me, “I love to hear you read the Bible. You make the Bible come alive for me. Will you keep reading the Bible please? I love the sound of your voice,”‘ she said of the positive feedback.

‘It feels so redemptive that, like, God’s using the very thing that glorifies him and the thing that’s brought me pain and then be rewarded for it.

‘Not in a personal way rewarded,’ she noted.

‘But people like the sound of my voice when I read the Bible. So I’m like, “This is amazing.”‘

Bure explained that she was only ‘crying’ on the podcast because she ‘just got really self-conscious of [her] voice because that’s what [her podcast listeners are] listening to.’

She continued: ‘But I have a podcast and we’re sharing Jesus. And that’s what my heart is.

‘My heart is just to bring people one step closer to Jesus.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to Bure’s representatives for further comment but has yet to hear back.

Her candid admission comes nearly a year after she addressed some of the other kinds of online criticism that she has been inundated with over the years.

Last September, Bure was notably targeted by trolls after posting a photo of herself posing in a bikini to her Instagram page.

She initially deleted the post in response to the body-shaming comments.

However, she later returned to Instagram to proudly share a photo of herself in a crop top, revealing her midriff.

Addressing the cruel trolls, Bure said that she was ‘soaking up the end of the summer’ and ‘having fun.’

She said she decided to delete her bikini post because ‘the comments became flooded with people discussing my body.’

Bure, who previously opened up about struggling with eating disorders and body dysmorphia throughout her life, added: ‘It wasn’t worth it. I took it down.’

Bure previously talked about dealing with body image issues in her 2010 memoir Reshaping It All.

She has openly discussed having bulimia in the past.

On her podcast, Bure also once discussed having an ‘unhealthy relationship with food’ as a child.

In April 2025, she admitted she has ‘very vivid memories of being in 5th grade and 6th grade’ and feeling ‘so bad’ about how she looked.

She said she had tried ‘every single diet plan’ since age 12 as she discussed her ‘history of eating disorders.’ She said she found solace in her faith.
