A Texas man accused of killing his estranged wife was allegedly wearing a disturbing piece of evidence when police arrived for a welfare check, according to an arrest affidavit.
Jake Bigoni, 37, opened the door of his Plano apartment on Aug. 12 with a large blood stain visible on his shirt, FOX4 reported.
Officers had gone to check on his estranged wife, Eliana Bigoni, after she missed a planned breakfast with a friend that morning. Police were also warned about safety concerns tied to Bigoni’s alleged history of violent behavior.
Bigoni allegedly told officers the stain came from cleaning his home, and claimed Eliana had stopped by the apartment earlier in the day before leaving.
Investigators later determined the stain on his shirt was blood. Inside the apartment, police found what they described as “a large amount of blood and blood spatter,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Daily Mail.
Eliana’s severely beaten body was later discovered in the trunk of a white Hyundai parked in the garage of Bigoni’s apartment building, police said.
Roughly 30 minutes before officers arrived for the welfare check, Bigoni allegedly called his mother and ominously told her, “I have something to tell you. She’s dead.”
“We got in a fight and she’s dead,” the father of two allegedly admitted to his mother, according to the affidavit.

Bigoni’s concerned mother then called the cops.
Eliana was separated from Bigoni at the time of the heinous killing and the couple were in the process of divorce.
The couple’s children, a 2-year-old and 5-year-old, were at the apartment at the time of the alleged murder and were unharmed.
“You are talking about two kids who were present when this incident or crime occurred,” Plano Police Officer Jerry Minton told FOX4.
“I can’t speculate as to what they may or may not have seen, but they were present.”
Eliana was reportedly on her way to Bigoni’s apartment to collect her children before she was killed.
Her official cause of death has not yet been released by the Collin County Medical Examiner.
Bigoni was originally slapped with a felony abuse of a corpse charge before authorities later added a murder charge.
He is currently being held in jail without bond.
