A multi-state search for a North Carolina couple accused in a deadly shooting spree came to a violent end in Ohio on Friday, when authorities say the pair crashed during a high-speed pursuit and were later found dead inside their vehicle.
Camryn Moore, 26, and Cory Armstrong, 29, were discovered dead after leading officers on a tense chase that lasted about 20 minutes, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The pursuit ended near Athens, Ohio, after Moore allegedly swerved off the roadway and into a ditch while trying to avoid spike strips deployed by troopers, according to police.
Authorities in North Carolina told The Post that investigators are examining whether Moore and Armstrong died in a possible double suicide, though the Ohio State Highway Patrol has not confirmed that account.
The case began Thursday morning with a shooting reported inside a home at 2661 Forbes Road in Gastonia, a city near North Carolina’s border with South Carolina.
Gaston County police said officers were called to the suburban residence at about 8:43 a.m. following reports of gunfire. Investigators said all six people connected to the deadly incident, including Moore and Armstrong, had been living at the home.
Emergency crews found Victoria “Heather” Moore, 50, and Josiah Bumgardner, 38, dead at the scene. Police identified them as Camryn Moore’s mother and uncle.
Family members said Josiah was a transgender man who had previously been known as Megan.
Two additional victims, whose names have not been released, were taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening wounds. Officials said Friday they remained in critical but stable condition.
Investigators have not yet said what may have triggered the alleged attack.
Police said Moore and Armstrong fled the Gastonia home shortly after the shooting, prompting detectives to secure arrest warrants charging both with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder as the search expanded beyond North Carolina.
Gaston County police said the investigation remains active as detectives continue working to determine the motive and full circumstances behind the killings.
