When are Powerball drawings and how much do tickets cost?
Powerball drawings take place three times each week—on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The results are broadcast live at approximately 10:59 p.m. Eastern time, or 7:59 p.m. Pacific. Ticket sales generally close about an hour before the drawing, although cutoff times can differ by state.
A Powerball ticket costs $2 per play. Players select five numbers from 1 through 69 and one Powerball number from 1 through 26. They can also choose a computer-generated Quick Pick.
For an additional $1 per play, players can add Power Play. The option increases non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times, based on the multiplier drawn. Powerball is available in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom.
