A luxury Audi burst into flames after crashing into a dirt wall in Santa Clarita early Saturday, though the 23-year-old driver survived the fiery wreck.
The man was reportedly driving an Audi S5 at more than 120 mph when it crashed near Soledad Canyon Road and Camp Plenty Road at about 1:41 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Valley station.
Bystanders watched as the high-end vehicle was consumed by flames. Once firefighters put out the blaze, the Audi was left as a charred, smoldering shell that was barely recognizable.
Authorities said the car hit a light pole and other objects before rolling into a nearby wash, where it caught fire.
One witness said the Audi struck the dirt wall and then “exploded.”
Deputies pulled the driver from the burning wreckage before the flames could engulf him, authorities told The California Post.
He was taken to a hospital and was reportedly in critical condition.
California Highway Patrol officers and Los Angeles County Fire Department crews also responded to the scene.
Authorities cordoned off the area as debris from the crash remained scattered across the roadway and surrounding location.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
The crash occurred near Canyon Country in eastern Santa Clarita, north of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County.
