Anthropic debuts Claude Duet personal AI agent. Here's what to know.

Anthropic is stepping into the growing market for autonomous AI agents with Claude Duet, a new app the company previewed this week.

The agent enters a competitive field that includes Meta’s Muse and OpenAI’s Dots, rival products that have already gained popularity among consumers.

Anthropic said Claude Duet is currently available only through a waitlist and as a research preview for Claude U.S. Pro and Max subscribers.

What can Claude Duet do?

Claude Duet is designed to act as a “proactive agent,” carrying out tasks autonomously on behalf of the people who assign them.

“It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working even when you step away and checks with you before it acts on your behalf,” Anthropic said. The company created the tool for professionals and small-business owners “with more on their plates than they can track.”

Anthropic said Claude Duet’s main advantage is its judgment. The company describes the agent as capable of determining which tasks should be prioritized and which situations require the user’s input.

Every morning, Claude Duet provides a daily briefing highlighting the day’s most important items. To build that context, users must connect the agent to applications such as email and calendar accounts. Some security professionals have raised concerns about new AI agents’ access to such information, urging users to carefully limit the data they share.

“Claude Duet carries over your memory, skills, and connected apps from your Claude account, so setting it up requires minimal work,” Anthropic said.

What about security issues?

Anthropic also pointed to security protections built into the app, saying Claude Duet never has direct access to a user’s passwords or sign-in tokens.

The agent can manage administrative work, including scheduling meetings and preparing financial or sales forecasts. Anthropic said it can also build web apps, draft job postings and make purchases on behalf of a business owner.

Researchers at Anthropic who tested Claude Duet used it to organize to-do lists, create apps, schedule interviews and handle other tasks.

How do you sign up?

Those interested in trying the tool can join the waitlist through Claude Duet’s product page, Anthropic said.

Invitations will be sent in waves, and the research preview is limited to users in the U.S., according to the company.

“We’re adding people gradually, and you’ll get an email when it’s your turn,” Anthropic said.
