Investigators have traveled from Arizona to Florida to meet with laboratory scientists as the search for Nancy Guthrie continues, police said.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department provided the update Friday evening, saying officials met with the scientists “to see what more could be done to advance the case.”
Nancy, the mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, has not been seen or heard from in nearly nine months after mysteriously disappearing from her home in Tucson, Arizona.
“A number of ideas were discussed, and we continue to work with all of our partners to solve this case,” the agency said, while urging the public to continue submitting tips as the investigation remains active.
“Even the smallest piece of information could be critical to the investigation,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said.
The 84-year-old visited the home of her other daughter, Annie, on January 31 at about 5:30 p.m. She returned to her own house at around 9:45 p.m.
Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, drove his mother-in-law home and is believed to be the last person to see her. He told police he watched Nancy enter through her garage door.
At about 1:45 a.m. on February 1, Nancy’s doorbell camera was disconnected from the front of her home. Minutes later, the device detected a person, although that video footage is not available.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department shared an update Friday on the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance
Nancy, the mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home for nearly nine months
Police previously said another clip showed a masked figure tampering with the device. At around 2:30 a.m., Nancy’s pacemaker was disconnected from her phone and Apple Watch.
Nancy’s friends became concerned later that morning when she failed to attend church, something they said was highly unusual for her.
About an hour later, relatives arrived at her home, realized she was missing and called 911.
The following days brought several news conferences from the sheriff’s office, along with emotional pleas from Nancy’s family for information about her whereabouts.
Savannah traveled to Arizona to support her siblings before breaking her silence in an Instagram post.
In the video, a visibly distressed Savannah sat alongside her sister Annie and brother Camron as they pleaded for their mother to come home safely.
She also addressed Nancy’s potential captors directly, saying, “We are ready to talk,” but only if they provided genuine proof of life—not AI-generated images or videos of Nancy.
Savannah has since returned to New York City and resumed her role on the show.

Officials said investigators met with laboratory scientists in Florida to determine “what more could be done to advance the case.” Nancy, 84, is believed to have been taken from her Tucson, Arizona, home in the early hours of February 1
In early April, FBI agents found what they described as “potentially critical” new DNA evidence at Nancy’s home.
Sources previously told ABC News that agents sent the sample to a private laboratory in Florida.
NewsNation reported that strands of hair discovered inside Nancy’s property were among the new evidence being analyzed.
Investigators have also examined a series of ransom notes, including one in which the writer claimed to have video showing Nancy’s killers.
The footage, referenced by an anonymous man in the correspondence, was reportedly captured on the day Nancy disappeared.
The writer claimed there were two kidnappers and said he had video of “the main guy” with Guthrie stored on a hidden phone. Nanos has dismissed the note.
“I think the FBI has done a number of arrests for false or fake ransom notes. It’s a shame that that happens, but I think we’re looking at another one of those today,” Nanos said in an interview with local radio station KVOI AM 1030.
“It is a shame that these types of events occur; people have great interest… that’s good because it helps us, but then it gets really abused.
“People who call in fake ransom notes, people who make claims for the sake of the media and the family, they get out and disturb, in this case, an entire neighborhood,” he continued.
In June, a large-scale search for Nancy was launched in Mexico.
At about 1:45 a.m. on February 1, Nancy’s doorbell camera was disconnected. Minutes later, the device detected a person, while another clip showed a masked figure tampering with it
The operation followed an anonymous tip to a local search group claiming that a possible grave belonging to Nancy had been located, according to a report.
The leader of the Buscando Corazones collective in the city of Nogales said the information concerned Nancy, according to the local outlet El Imparcial.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office said it was aware of the reports but had not been contacted by Mexican authorities.
“The investigation remains active and ongoing, and we will continue to follow up on credible information,” the office added.
The Buscando Corazones collective has previously located more than 25 unmarked graves in the area, the report said.
