An NYPD spokesperson told News Outlet on Saturday that the victim was still alive.
Authorities have not disclosed the woman’s name, and no suspect had been identified, the spokesperson said.
The New York Post, citing police sources, reported that the woman had been preparing to compete in Sunday’s New York City Marathon.
New York Road Runners, the organization responsible for staging the marathon, offered support to the victim and her loved ones in a statement to News Outlet.

“We were heartbroken to learn of this terrible attack. Our thoughts are with her family and everyone in the running community,” the group said.
NYRR said its records indicate that the woman had taken part in its races before, but the organization could not verify whether she intended to participate in Sunday’s marathon.
Authorities have not said what preceded the assault or determined whether the victim knew the person who attacked her.
The waterfront trail runs beside Gravesend Bay and offers views of Staten Island and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, The Post reported.
As detectives continue investigating the Brooklyn stabbing, police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
