Colorado criminal Zakary Hirschfield sentenced to five years in prison for 100 mph high speed chase

A Colorado career criminal who led police on a triple-digit high-speed chase before being captured prone in nothing but his underwear was thrown behind bars following a year of being in and out of jail.

Zakary Dean Hirschfield was sentenced to five years in prison for the multi-town pursuit in Colorado’s Douglas County back on January 15.

Hirschfield took off in his SUV during a routine traffic stop, nearly hitting the Douglas County deputy who had pulled him over and raced across the county for over an hour.

“He’s taking off, he just tried to hit me, the unidentified deputy said in the radio as Hirschfield’s passenger could be yelling from inside the car, according to body cam footage released by officials.

Throughout the chase, Hirschfield drove recklessly, merging into oncoming traffic, crossing over the median and hitting 100 mph, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Hirschfield was tracked down by cops, a K9 team and drones where he was found hiding under a porch wearing nothing but his underwear.

“Don’t run from our deputies. We will catch you and hold you accountable. This defendant learned that the hard way and is now headed to prison. Putting our deputies and the public at risk will not be tolerated in Douglas County,” Sheriff Darren Weekly said.

The near-naked Hirschfield was splayed out on the ground as he was handcuffed while nearly a dozen officers surrounded him.

Police said cocaine and drug paraphernalia were found inside his car after he was captured.

“Some criminals seem to think the rules don’t apply to them and that they can simply flee when they’re caught,” 23rd Judicial District Attorney George Brauchler said. “Hirschfield endangered a deputy, his own passenger and countless innocent motorists because he refused to stop. He now has five years to realize he chose the wrong county in which to run from the law.”

The 24-year-old repeat offender had an extensive criminal history and was on probation in neighboring Arapahoe County for a “big-time drug distribution felony.” Brauchler said Hirschfield had negotiated a plea agreement that reduced his sentence to “straight probation.”

Hirschfield continued getting into trouble during the first eight months of his probation, prompting its revocation. He was later placed back on probation, Brauchler said.

The revolving-door criminal was arrested in Jefferson County in August 2025 on suspicion of robbery. He was released on a personal recognizance bond and remained out on that bond when he was arrested in January.

“When you come into this jurisdiction and run, we simply don’t give up,” Brauchler said, praising the sheriff’s department and his office for their work following Hirschfield’s sentencing.
