Newly elected Texas Sen. James Talarico made a surprise appearance in the cold open of “Saturday Night Live,” days after helping turn the Lone Star State blue for the first time since 1988.
During the highly anticipated post-election episode, the upset victor interrupted James Austin Johnson’s President Trump character as he discussed Tuesday’s midterm blue wave and used the nickname “Talafreako.”
“I’m James Talarico, the guy who’s been texting you every day asking for $5,” the newly elected senator joked.

“In this economy, who can blame you?” Johnson’s Trump replied.

Talarico then suggested that he and the president could work together to improve life for everyday Americans, arguing that “it’s clear people want something new, they want something different.”
He quickly clarified that he was referring to “SNL’s” cold opens. “How many of these Trump freezers are they going to do?” Talarico asked, appearing to take a jab at Johnson’s roughly 50 portrayals of the president during the show’s opening sketch.
“Infinity,” Johnson’s Trump answered before the two shouted together, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night Live.”
