“Avatar: Fire and Ash” follows the Sully Clan as they grieve and fight for survival against a vicious threat and a wave of human colonization.

Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington and Stephen Lang return alongside newcomer Oona Chaplin, who is entering the fight.

Below is an excerpt of Entertainment Reporter Joelle Garguilo’s interview with the cast:

JOELLE GARGUILO: As a mom and as someone who’s experienced a lot of grief recently, the themes hit me, but also just how connected we are.

JAMES CAMERON: What are our support structures? What is the family that we’re born into? What is the family that we choose?

GARGUILO: What does that look like?

CAMERON: How do we define family? I wanted to see people processing hurt and loss and grief and how that down twists them or through which they heal.

SAM WORTHINGTON: It’s a massive intergalactic battle that’s beautiful and breathtaking. It’s about this family dynamic, it’s the ultimate love story. If you took away all the bells and whistles, it’d still just be about love.

GARGUILO: What are the stories that you will share years from now about your time with these people on this film?

ZOE SALDANA: The human connection, and to know that I got to work with my idols.

SIGOURNEY WEAVER: Getting to play so much with the kids and watching them grow up.

OONA CHAPLIN: It’s such an immense journey of gratitude for the support that I’ve felt from people that I was really inspired by.

CAMERON: You know, it’s become this kind of omnipresent part of my existence.

WEAVER: And now we really are a family.

GARGUILO: What do you love about this one?

SALDANA: I love how complex it continues to be. I love meeting a new clan, the Mangkwan clan. I love that this clan is led by Oona Chaplin.

BAILEY BASS: The eye contact, I love a woman enraged.

TRINITY BLISS: There is something about this film. It’s so epic and visceral. All the action, and how the action is mixed in with the story. I was laughing, then I was crying, then I was booing, then I was cheering. It feels like you’re on a ride.

JACK CHAMPION: Everything else that you thought couldn’t go wrong goes wrong, and it just goes crazy.

BASS: And that’s why it’s so fast paced. that’s why you don’t think it’s three hours long. Everything is, like so many things are changing.

GARGUILO: In the spirit of the films, how long can you now hold your breath underwater?

BASS: 6 minutes, 30 seconds.

CAMERON: Somewhere around 5:30, maybe 5:45.

CHAMPION: 5 minutes, 33 seconds.

WEAVER: 6 1/2 minutes.

GARGUILO: Something about a James Cameron film, he has mastered the art of the one liner. If you could have uttered any one of those lines, which line do you wish you got to say?

SALDANA: Get away from her, you.

BLISS: Get away from her, you.

BASS/CHAMPION: Oh!

SALDANA: Come on.

BLISS: And it makes a comeback in this film.

WORTHINGTON: Hasta la vista, baby.

SALDANA: I’ll be back.

CHAMPION: I’ll be back.
