An Ohio woman who vanished under suspicious circumstances in July 2021 was reportedly found dead on Thursday.

According to WJW, a cleaning person discovered Audreona Barnes’ body while moving a pile of clothes on a balcony in Cleveland. The cleaning person told police that the prior tenant had been evicted on March 11.

It is not immediately known how Barnes, 19, died. Her family had reported her missing to Warrensville Heights police in July 2021. Her mother, Akua Avegnon, told WOJO that she was last seen being dropped off at her boyfriend’s home on Warner Road — the same road where her body was found last week.

On July 30, Avegnon’s boyfriend got a text from Barnes’ number asking to pick her up from a gas station. Avegnon said the text did not seem like it came from her daughter. Barnes’ social media accounts were deactivated and her phone was turned off shortly thereafter, according to WOJO.

Warrensville Heights Detective Gregory Curry previously told the news outlet that there is no gas station located on the road where Barnes reportedly asked her mother’s boyfriend for a ride.

Curry also said Army recruiters had picked Barnes up from her boyfriend’s home and dropped her off there — though recruiters are reportedly unsure whether she went into the residence.

According to WOJO, Cleveland police have not announced whether they are investigating Barnes’ death as a homicide.
