GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ieshia Chika Nakajsa Hawkins, 24, was arrested yesterday after deputies said she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend, pulled him through the apartment by his hair, and poured a pot of collard greens over his head during a domestic dispute.
An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy was called to Majestic Oaks Apartments, 5800 SW 20th Avenue, at about 7:28 p.m. on July 21 after Hawkins dialed 911 and reported that her boyfriend had choked her.
According to the deputy’s report, Hawkins’ boyfriend said the confrontation began as an argument. When he began collecting his belongings to leave, he said Hawkins threw a bag containing his clothes into a hot oven, causing the clothing to “sear.” He told the deputy he removed the bag and kept packing, but Hawkins grew more upset and stabbed him in the chest with a knife, leaving a small puncture wound. He said she then grabbed him by the hair and dragged him around the apartment, making him fear for his life, so he placed her in a chokehold until she let go. As he was leaving, he said Hawkins picked up a hot pot of collard greens from the stove and dumped it on him.
The deputy reported seeing a small puncture wound on the victim’s chest, welts on the back of his head consistent with hair-pulling, and a raised red mark on his neck. The report also noted a dried yellow substance in his hair and dried collard greens on his chest. A pot was found just outside the apartment, with spilled greens around it, according to the deputy.
The victim told the deputy the damage to his clothing was valued at less than $200.
Hawkins reportedly told the deputy that the victim pushed her first, sparking a physical fight during which she said she was slapped and choked. The deputy wrote that Hawkins did not mention pulling the victim’s hair.
The deputy also noted that Hawkins did not have visible injuries supporting her claim that she had been slapped or otherwise hurt during the altercation.
Post Miranda, Hawkins reportedly admitted to dragging the victim by his hair around the apartment and chasing the victim out of the apartment with the pot of hot collard greens and then dumping it on his head; she denied having a knife during the incident.
Deputies reportedly found a knife in the sink and a fork on the floor of the kitchen.
While Hawkins was being escorted to a patrol vehicle, she allegedly lunged at the victim and kicked him in the head; she also allegedly refused to get into the patrol vehicle and had to be forcibly placed inside. After the deputy closed the door of the patrol vehicle, Hawkins allegedly kicked the door, bending it about an inch from the frame and preventing it from closing properly. The damage to the patrol vehicle was estimated at $2,000.
Hawkins has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery with a prior battery conviction, felony property damage, resisting an officer without violence, and misdemeanor property damage. She has juvenile convictions between 2014 and 2018 and one adult felony conviction (violent). Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $220,000 and ordered her to maintain an alternate residence.
