A Florida couple has been released on bond after authorities said their 6-month-old daughter was found with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.383—an amount that could have been fatal.
Jessie Waldroup, 36, and Desirae Uzunboylu, 27, were arrested Sept. 17 and charged with child neglect after police said their infant nearly died from alcohol poisoning. An affidavit obtained by Law&Crime states that the couple’s 7-year-old son discovered the baby unresponsive after returning home from school on Sept. 8. The child was reportedly lying in a playpen inside her bedroom while Waldroup and Uzunboylu slept in the living room.
The boy told investigators that his baby sister was “not acting right or responding,” according to police.
Doctors also reported finding bruises they considered “highly suspicious for non-accidental trauma,” the affidavit says. Medical personnel told police the infant likely would have died had her brother not found her and called 911.
Both Waldroup and Uzunboylu face child-neglect charges. They posted bond and were released from the Pasco County Jail. Information about their next court appearances was not immediately available.
