In a chilling development aboard the Carnival Horizon earlier this month, Anna Kepner’s younger brother allegedly spent the night in a cabin where his sister’s body lay hidden beneath a bed.
According to sources cited by the Daily Mail, 18-year-old Anna was staying in the same cabin as her 16-year-old stepbrother and her 14-year-old brother during their family’s six-day cruise through the Western Caribbean.
On November 6, Anna reportedly felt unwell and went back to her cabin. Her brothers also returned later that day. The younger brother, 14, changed his clothes before leaving to take photographs, as relayed by sources.
Anna was present in the cabin when her 14-year-old brother left, but upon his return, she was not. Not suspecting anything amiss, he went to bed.
When Anna didn’t appear at a family gathering the following morning, her absence raised alarms, leading to the realization that she was missing.
As previously reported by CrimeOnline, a steward discovered Anna’s body around 11 a.m. during cabin cleaning. Subsequently, the ship made an unscheduled stop at Port Miami on November 8.
Anna Kepner died on November 7, according to the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner. The Cruise Globe reports that the vessel was in Cuba at the time, on the northwest coast.
The medical examiner has not yet revealed how she died.
According to court documents, her 16-year-old stepbrother is now considered a suspect.
Anna Kepner’s birth mother has reportedly said she found out her daughter passed away through a Google search.
According to WESH, Anna’s mother, Heather Wright, who lives in Oklahoma, said she hasn’t seen her daughter in a few years, and that her father didn’t contact her.
“I found out through Google. I ended up Googling it, because the only information I had was that my daughter was on a cruise,” Wright said.
Wright remembered her daughter as a loving person who enjoyed being near the water and swimming.
“She always wanted to make people laugh. She loved the water; we were constantly going to the lake here where I live so she could go swimming,” Wright said.
Meanwhile, the FBI in Miami, currently leading the investigation, has not released additional details and has not confirmed the claims.
