Two Texas sisters were arrested last week and charged with abusing a 12-year-old child for months.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office initiated a probe on September 28 after a child reported enduring continuous physical and sexual abuse. She was brought to a hospital, where medical staff found injuries that aligned with signs of abuse and malnutrition.
On Friday, Brenda Garcia, 38, and Tania Garcia, 37, were apprehended and charged with multiple offenses, including child injury, unlawful restraint, and invasive visual recording.
While the sheriff’s office hasn’t released additional details, court documents reveal months of torment that started when the girl, who had been staying with an uncle allegedly abusing her, sought assistance from Brenda Garcia, a known acquaintance of the uncle, according to KTRK.
Garcia agreed to assist, leading to the girl moving in with the sisters in March. However, the complaint notes that they quickly started subjecting her to emotional and physical harm.
The victim reported to officials that she was frequently tied up and hit with objects such as belts, electric cords, and sticks. Allegedly, the sisters would cut her with scissors and choke her.
Medical staff said the girl was covered in bruises after her escape and had multiple cuts and scars, including an infected gash on her forehead.
The sisters claimed to investigators that the girl was “psychotic” and that her wounds were self-inflicted, as reported by KHOU. Nonetheless, investigators acquired cell phone footage and security videos from within the residence that disproved their assertions.
The sisters reportedly told the girl to “just die already,” tied her to chairs, alternately starved her and forced her to eat off the floor, and photographed her naked.
