A Texas woman faces incarceration after authorities discovered her father’s decaying remains inside their Bellmead residence, where she had been residing with him.
The 66-year-old Jerry Freeman was found at a mobile home located in the 4000 block of E. Harris, Bellmead, earlier this week, as reported by KWTX.
Neighbors recounted that Freeman’s body was uncovered on Wednesday during a wellness check conducted by healthcare workers, who then contacted the police. Officers from the Bellmead police department arrived shortly before 3:00 p.m.
The owner of the mobile home park informed KWTX that Crystal Martin, Freeman’s 44-year-old daughter, had been living with her father in the home since 2009. Shockingly, Martin remained in the home with her father’s body, failing to notify the authorities.
An officer detailed in the arrest warrant, “I observed the corpse exhibiting signs of bloating and lividity.” The warrant also noted the unsanitary conditions in the home, attributed to multiple dogs.
According to jail records, Martin has been detained, facing charges of corpse abuse and resisting arrest. She is currently held at the McLennan County Jail with a bond set at $5,000.
Newsbreak reported that the City of Bellmead’s Chief of Police, Shawn Myatt, stated that he does not suspect Freeman’s death was foul play.
