Warning: Spoilers ahead for “The Boys” Season 5, Episode 7 — “The Frenchman, The Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk.”
Marie Moreau, portrayed by Jaz Sinclair, has finally made her entrance in “The Boys.” Unfortunately, her debut falls flat as her impact is notably absent.
Marie has been depicted as a powerhouse within “The Boys” universe. Her prowess as a bloodbender has been showcased throughout two seasons of the spinoff, “Gen V,” suggesting she is a formidable force to rival even Homelander, played by Antony Starr. Her appearance in “The Boys” Season 5 was eagerly anticipated, as the series has dropped hints about her potential. Yet, her introduction is undercut by her own words: “Reports of my greatness have been greatly exaggerated.”
These words are a direct rebuttal to the notion that she could defeat Homelander. The narrative continues to temper expectations, with Starlight, played by Erin Moriarty, reprimanding Marie for her lack of control. This effectively sidelines her and Jordan Li, portrayed by London Thor, especially with Homelander now even more invincible and Butcher on the verge of releasing a supe-targeting virus. With this turn of events, Marie and her “Gen V” comrades are effectively pushed to the periphery. If there’s been a greater misstep this season, it’s hard to spot.
There remains a slim chance that Marie Moreau could stage a dramatic return in the season finale of “The Boys.” However, the likelihood seems dim. Her narrative is primarily developed in “Gen V,” making it jarring for audiences solely following “The Boys” to see her suddenly facing Homelander. Moreover, with “Gen V” canceled in April 2026, the prospects for its characters appear bleak. Considering “The Boys” is nearing its conclusion, and a prequel series titled “Vought Rising” is set in an era predating the “Gen V” protagonists, the future is uncertain for Marie.
Indeed, ending Marie’s journey in this manner would feel anticlimactic. “Gen V” meticulously crafted her as a significant threat, especially in the eyes of Thomas Godolkin, played by Ethan Slater, who regards her as the mightiest supe. Discarding this rich narrative arc does seem like a missed opportunity.
The end of Gen V ends the importance of Marie Moreau
It’s still possible that Marie Moreau will perform a miraculous comeback in “The Boys” Season 5 (and series) finale. However, this seems unlikely. Marie’s story unfolds entirely on the spin-off show “Gen V,” and it would be very strange for people who have only watched “The Boys” for the show to suddenly bring in a character they’re not familiar with to confront Homelander. Besides, “The Boys” spin-off “Gen V” was canceled in April 2026, so the future doesn’t look great for any of its characters. After all, “The Boys” is about to end, too, and upcoming prequel series “Vought Rising” takes place during an era where the young main characters of “Gen V” weren’t even born.
Yes, what unfolds in this episode would be a fairly underwhelming way to end Marie’s story. “Gen V” has carefully and painstakingly built her into a viable threat, courtesy of Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater), who specifically sees her as the strongest supe of them all. That’s a lot of storyline to throw away.
On the other hand, though, there really is no more narrative use for Marie — an orphaned protagonist of a canceled show. Strong as she might be, the endgame of “The Boys” has so many moving parts that she’s started to seem like an unnecessary component. As such, if she does show up in “The Boys” series finale, the prognosis for her survival isn’t all that great.
