Amid her struggle with ovarian cancer, Lakeisha Glaspie found solace and support in an unexpected form: a car gifted by the Lone Warrior Foundation, which she sees as a divine answer to her prayers.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Lakeisha Glaspie was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer in February and has since undergone six grueling chemotherapy sessions. Without a vehicle, managing her medical appointments and visiting her children has become increasingly challenging. However, her circumstances took a positive turn on Friday when the Lone Warrior Foundation presented her with a new car.

“With the upcoming surgery and the absence of a car, the obstacles are significant. This gift is from all of us because we care, and this is the essence of Lone Warrior—to support individuals like you on your journey. It’s tough being a single mother, and even tougher battling cancer simultaneously,” expressed Rob Chumbook.

Chumbook, who has personally triumphed over cancer, is no stranger to the trials of single parenthood while facing a health crisis. He established the Lone Warrior Foundation to offer solidarity, hope, and financial aid to single parents fighting cancer.

The Hyundai Kona that now belongs to Lakeisha wasn’t merely a donation. It was featured in a raffle during the Lone Warrior Foundation’s gala, and the winner chose to pass it on to someone in need.

“I hope this gift brings positive change to your life. Our aim is to save one life, change one life; that is the motto we live by,” Chumbook remarked.

Lakeisha says she had driven her previous car for 17 years before it broke down. The last two months without transportation have been difficult.

“And then to be gifted something like this,” she said. “It’s life-changing. I know I’ll make it to treatment…and of course, being able to get my son who was concerned we were going to miss visits.”

The new car couldn’t have come at a better time. She says her mother is in hospice care.

“Lakeisha’s mom is at the end of the road, unfortunately. And they don’t know how long she’s going to live, and this car is going to allow her to drive to New York to see her mom before she passes,” Chumbook said,  “So, there’s a beautiful silver lining to this gift.”

Lakeisha says it’s answer to prayer.

“When you get a cancer diagnosis, it almost seems that everything that can go wrong will go wrong. And it’s been a challenge for me to just hang in there, to keep praying, to keep fighting, to reach out for help. A lot of people, myself included, just don’t want to reach out for help, but it’s so important to reach out for help because there are people wonderful people and organizations like the Lone Warrior Foundation just willing to help you,” she said. “I know it was God answering some prayers.”

If you’re a single parent battling cancer and need help, you can apply for financial assistance on The Lone Warrior Foundation’s website. The organization is also seeking volunteers and donors.
