ALTAMONT, Ill. (WCIA) — After a standout career in high school, Altamont grad Grace Lemke is set to take her talents to Eastern Illinois University.

The two-time Class 1A All-State selection went 18-9 last season with a 0.57 ERA.

She was initially committed to the College of Lake County, but a coaching change led her to Charleston.

Initially, she was hesitant about enrolling in a four-year university, but now she’s eager to join the EIU program, which is celebrating its second NCAA Tournament appearance in three years.

“Part of my hesitation was due to the significant commitment,” Lemke explained. “The other part was uncertainty about my own skill level. However, throughout my last high school season and the travel ball season, I realized I could compete effectively and meet the necessary standards.”

“Her transformation into an outstanding pitcher and individual highlights the immense growth she’s achieved,” commented Megan Burrus, Altamont’s head softball coach. “Her maturity has increased, she’s learned to accept feedback, and this has helped shape her into the remarkable athlete she is now.”
