State Police on scene of 'serious' injury crash; Route 16 shut down in Shelby Co.

SHELBY COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois State Police are responding to a “serious personal injury crash” in Shelby County, resulting in the closure of Route 16 in that area.

State Police reported that around 8:42 a.m., Troop 7 troopers along with the Illinois Department of Transportation were dispatched to a crash site at IL Route 16/2450 E in Shelby County concerning a significant personal injury incident. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office announced that by 8:46 a.m., Route 16 near the crash site, which is roughly six miles east of Shelbyville, had been closed.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes as the accident is blocking the lanes. Those nearing the crash site are encouraged to exercise caution.
