A new survey conducted by pest management software provider PestPac has identified Florida’s most despised insect.

Surprisingly, it isn’t the cockroach.

The study examined online search data to figure out the “most searched and most feared” insect in each state of the country.

While the Sunshine State has also struggled heavily with pests like bedbugs and termites, it wasn’t either of them, either.

Instead, the study reveals that the most reviled bugs for Florida residents — and the nation at large — were mosquitoes.

According to PestPac, nearly 40% of those surveyed reported seeing mosquitoes as the biggest threat.

In addition, these insects ranked No. 1 in 13 states, as seen below.

But that’s not where it ends.

The study also examined other issues, such as which insect infestations caused the most stress. As it turns out, that ranking was as follows:

  • No. 1: Cockroaches

  • No. 2: Mosquitoes

  • No. 3: Wasps, Hornets and Bees

  • No. 4: Ants

  • No. 5: Flies

  • No. 6: Spiders

  • No. 7: Ticks

  • No. 8: Bedbugs

  • No. 9: Termites

  • No. 10: Stinkbugs

Several other survey results by PestPac can be found below:
