UPDATE: Armed subject in custody following Champaign standoff

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The armed subject who barricaded himself in Champaign has been arrested by Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies.

Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman informed WCIA that the individual has been apprehended peacefully. The standoff took place in the vicinity of Halifax and Maynard Drives.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Deputies from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office are actively engaged in a standoff near Halifax and Maynard Drives.

According to Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman, deputies have responded to a situation involving an armed individual who is barricaded. At least seven sheriff’s office vehicles have been spotted near a residence at the intersection of Champaign and Maynard Drive, which is currently blocked by law enforcement. Authorities request that the public steer clear of the area.
