Shoppers are being advised to return a well-known brand of diaper pants available at a big Australian store after the Khapra beetle was found within them.

The beetle, regarded as a harmful pest in Australia, was discovered in Little One’s Ultra Dry Nappy Pants – Walker Size 5 (pack of 42), which are sold at Woolworths.

The Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) issued the warning after larvae of the beetle were found in the nappy pants.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) stated that Woolworths is working to remove the affected items from shelves nationwide and is ensuring future batches of the product undergo testing and treatment to eliminate the beetle.

People who have recently bought these diapers are advised to throw them away and, if possible, seal them to prevent the beetle from spreading.

A spokesperson from Woolworths confirmed DAFF has insisted customers are not to return the product to stores.

“This product is supplied to us through Ontex, who manufactures the products overseas and imports them to Australia,” the spokesperson added.

“Upon receiving the information, we promptly acted as per DAFF’s guidelines to withdraw the item from sale, place it under quarantine, and started an investigation with DAFF and Ontex.”

Wooloworths also said any customers should direct further inquiries at DAFF.
