A tragic accident on a Queensland highway led to a man’s death when a ute towing a caravan crashed into another ute, causing it to tumble down an embankment into a creek.

Emergency services were quick to respond to the devastating accident on the Bruce Highway in Nirimba at 11:20 am today.

The incident prompted a significant emergency service operation, involving critical care paramedics.

The driver of the Mazda ute with the caravan, a man in his 80s, died at the scene.

The passenger, a woman in her 60s, was transported to hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the Toyota ute was not physically injured.

The crash caused lengthy delays for motorists with one northbound lane closed for several hours.

Police are seeking dashcam footage and working to confirm details of the crash.
