Colin, an 87-year-old traffic warden, was nearing the end of his shift in Rossmoyne, located in the southern part of the city, when he fell victim to an assault earlier today.
A man dressed entirely in black pushed Colin to the ground and made off with his hat and whistle.
Bystanders quickly tended to his grazed head and called for assistance.
“I hope he is alright. He’s a wonderful person, and we all appreciate him,” shared a local resident with concern.
The suspect fled the scene in a Toyota Prado, and as of tonight, remains at large. To aid in the search, police have released footage of the incident’s aftermath.
The assailant is described as being around 183 centimeters tall, aged between 17 and 19, sporting a black mullet, and having a dark complexion.
Rossmoyne Primary School teachers stepped in to fill Colin’s shift this afternoon as he recovered.
“It’s very important for them to know that it’s going to be safe for them to keep our kids safe on the streets and what has happened to Colin is really sad,” City of Canning Councillor Shen Sekhon said.
Locals say Colin has become a familiar face, never missing a shift, with today a notable exception.
“Every morning when I rock up to work he always gives a smile,” another community member said.
“He’s always talking to everyone who walks past.”
