A pedestrian has been killed and a woman injured after a car crashed through a medical centre in Melbourne’s north-west, ending up 30m from the road.

Emergency responders rushed to Keilor Road in Niddrie around 9:20 am today following an incident where a vehicle veered onto a footpath, colliding with a pedestrian before crashing into the façade of a doctor’s office at a bustling intersection.

Tragically, a man standing next to a nearby tram stop lost his life at the scene.

Meanwhile, paramedics attended to a woman in her 50s who was in a consultation with a doctor when the accident occurred.

She was transported by air to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, suffering from significant injuries to both her upper and lower body.

The doctor, fortunately, escaped without injuries.

The driver, a 63-year-old man, was hospitalized with injuries and is currently under police supervision.

The driver is yet to be formally interviewed by police.

It remains unclear what exactly caused the crash.

Detective Inspector Craig McEvoy said the car, a silver Alfa Romeo, did not appear to brake before it smashed 30-metres into the medical centre.

“Nothing has suggested to me that the design or the infrastructure of the intersection has contributed to it in any way,” McEvoy added.

He said it was fortunate the car missed the waiting room and reception area.

McEvoy said the pedestrian who was killed was sadly in the “wrong place at the wrong time”.

“It’s the Christmas period, slow down. Take care,” he added.

”Slow down, enjoy time with your loved ones.”
