An 11-year-old girl tragically lost her life following a car accident that occurred at the intersection of High Street and Wallace Roads in Wantirna South. The incident happened around 8:20 p.m. when the silver Toyota Corolla she was in, along with her parents and a four-year-old boy, collided with a Nissan Skyline.
The young girl was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries but unfortunately passed away later that night.
The four-year-old boy also suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized, although his condition is not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla, a 38-year-old woman from Knoxfield, was treated for minor injuries.
A 38-year-old man, also from Knoxfield and a passenger in the Corolla, emerged from the crash without physical harm.
The two men in the Nissan sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
The female Corolla driver allegedly failed to give way to the Nissan, police said.
“Please make sure your children are properly restrained in appropriate restraints in the back seat,” Detective Sergeant Stephen Hill said yesterday.
“They are in your hands and hopefully we can avoid another tragedy like this.”
Detectives are urging drivers who were travelling on High Street Road or Wallace Road before the collision to check their dashcam.
