Romanian fake escort admits drugging and killing wealthy businessmen

A Romanian woman who posed as an escort has admitted killing two businessmen and poisoning two others with a date rape drug as part of a scheme to rob them.

Adina Mihai pretended to be a sex worker to gain access to the £4 million Cotswolds home of wealthy property developer Malcolm King, a man widely known as one of the world’s most prominent game hunters.

Mr King, 83, died after being given a lethal dose of gamma-butyrolactone, known as GBL, shortly after he invited the 31-year-old into his six-bedroom mansion.

Police believe the pensioner was deceived into drinking wine laced with the drug before Mihai stole his Rolex and fled with her partner, Madalin Dumitru, 30, leaving him unconscious on August 20, 2024.

After the father-of-two was found dead by relatives the following day, investigators initially suspected natural causes, as Mr King had pre-existing heart issues that were unrelated to the poisoning.

However, detectives uncovered the wider pattern nearly a year later, when another businessman died in strikingly similar circumstances, leading them to conclude that Mihai had drugged multiple men.

Gary Mouat, 37, who ran one of Oxfordshire’s largest glazing firms, was discovered dead at his home in Banbury on July 13, 2025, hours after his drink had been spiked with GBL.

That same day, Mihai arranged to meet a third male victim, who lost consciousness but survived. He woke at around 6am to find his watch had been stolen.

Days later, she struck again, arranging to meet a fourth man at his address on July 22, who awoke to find several items missing from his home.

On July 30, Mihai was hired by a fifth man who saw her escort profile on the Vivastreet website.

As she and her partner were fleeing his home, police stopped their car at 3.30am and they were arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to steal.

Police believe the pair intended to steal jewellery, cash and watches from their victims who paid around £170 an hour for the fake escort believing she would provide sexual services.

Mihai used GBL to render her victims unconscious before calling Dumitru who waited outside victims’ homes.

Detectives believe the couple then swiped victims’ belongings and fled their homes, leaving victims to die alone.

Today the pair admitted two counts of manslaughter, and two counts of administering poison with intent to injure at Oxford Crown Court.

Mihai, who appeared via videolink, showed no emotion as she entered the pleas.

The tattooed killer wearing a blue and white shirt looked down as she muttered ‘guilty’ to manslaughter.

Her partner, wearing a blue t-shirt on a separate videolink from prison, also admitted the two killings.

Now it can be revealed how the Romanian couple preyed on men for years.

Police believe the pair may have claimed scores of victims and officers circulated their details to forces nationwide to determine whether they could be linked to any other unexplained deaths or drug- related robberies.

Although they have not been able to link the duo to any other cases, detectives believe that some survivors may be too embarrassed to come forward after being tricked by the couple who came to the UK legally in 2023.

After their conviction, it can now be revealed how Mihai selected wealthy men to target, agreeing only to meet British men who appeared rich and tricking them into paying upfront for sexual services.

In video calls she asked victims to show her that they had piles of cash before agreeing to go to their homes.

Their first victim was known as one of the world’s top big game hunters, travelling around the world shooting hundreds of wild game for fun.

The father of two appeared more than 30 times on the awards pages of an international safari website for completing goals requiring shooting some of the African ‘big five’, made up of the lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo.

The director of a property managing agent based in the British Virgin Islands, he was a member of the Safari Club International, an organisation promoting hunting as conservation.

The world-renowned hunter had homes in Jersey and a six-bedroom mansion with a swimming pool in Bagendon near Cirencester, where he is said to have kept his extensive trophy collection.

Today, Mrs Justice Brunner warned the pair they will face ‘substantial terms of imprisonment’ when they are sentenced next month.

Thames Valley Police senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Michael Roddy, of the Major Crime Unit, said: ‘This has been an extremely complex and resource‑intensive investigation, involving specialist teams across Thames Valley Police, Gloucestershire Constabulary and partner agencies so I am proud to have this positive result.

‘Adina Mihai and Madalin Dumitru used drugs to incapacitate men who had been seeking sexual services, before stealing from them.

‘For Gary Mouat, these actions had fatal consequences so I am pleased to have got answers for his family and would like to thank them for their support throughout our investigation.’

Gloucestershire Constabulary’s senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Adam Stacey, of their Major Crime Investigation Unit, said: ‘Tragically for Mr. King, Mihai and Dumitru’s callous and calculated actions had fatal consequences.

‘The tireless work of all those involved in the joint investigation left Mihai and Dumitru with little choice but to plead guilty to manslaughter and administering poison in the face of overwhelming evidence.

‘Our thoughts are with Mr. King’s family, at what must remain an incredibly difficult time for them. We continue to support them with our specialist officers.’
