IDF kills Hamas naval commander Osama Naim Hamdi Shamlakh in Gaza City

July 14 — The Israel Defense Forces said Monday it killed a Hamas naval commander in an airstrike in the Gaza City area.

The military identified the commander as Osama Naim Hamdi Shamlakh, saying he led a cell and had worked to rebuild and strengthen Hamas’s naval capabilities, including efforts tied to advanced attacks at sea.

In a separate operation in northern Gaza, the IDF said it killed three armed Hamas operatives who allegedly attempted to attack Israeli troops operating inside the enclave.

The suspects “posed an imminent threat to the troops” and were killed in “precise aerial strikes,” the IDF said, adding that measures were taken to reduce the risk of harm to civilians.

Israeli forces remain stationed in Gaza under the terms of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement reached on Oct. 10, 2025, the military said, adding that troops would continue acting against immediate threats.

The IDF also said Monday that it had struck and killed a Hamas operative on Sunday who allegedly tried to smuggle military equipment into Gaza in violation of the ceasefire.

The man, identified by the military as Mustafa Oweisi, had “operated throughout the war” to bring weapons into the Gaza Strip and recently attempted to move in additional equipment to help rebuild Hamas’s military wing, the IDF said.

According to the military, the equipment Oweisi allegedly sought to smuggle was intended for use by Hamas operatives in maritime and aerial attacks.
