HUNDREDS of people said their goodbyes to ex-NHL star and Boston College Jimmy Hayes at his wake on Sunday.
More than 200 people paid their respects to the late hockey player in Florian Hall in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
Hayes’ Funeral Mass will take place in St. Ann’s Church, Neponset, at 10am on Monday, August 30.
Hayes, 31, died suddenly last week at home, leaving his wife and two children devastated, cops say.
According to the Boston Globe, law enforcement and first responders went to Hayes’ home in Milton, Massachusetts, on the morning of August 23, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say Hayes’ cause of death is still unknown and is being treated as unexplained.
His death was not ruled suspicious, reported the outlet.
The news of Hayes’ sudden death rocked the hockey world as fans and his former teams penned tributes to the player on social media.
The Pittsburgh Penguins, the team Hayes played in during the 2018 – 2019 season tweeted: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former @WBSPenguins forward, Jimmy Hayes. The Penguins organization sends our thoughts and prayers to Jimmy’s family, friends, and former teammates during this extremely difficult time.”

Medical examiners in the state confirmed that an autopsy had been conducted but the hockey player’s cause of death still remains unknown.
In an email sent to the Boston Globe, they said: “The cause and manner of death remain pending and an update is not expected for several weeks when toxicology testing comes back.”
Autopsy reports in Massachusetts are not public documents.
HAYES APPEARED IN OVER 300 GAMES
Hayes “appeared in over 300 games with the Blackhawks, Panthers, Devils and his hometown Bruins,” NHL Public Relations tweeted.
The account noted that the “NHL family” is mourning his death.

In a lengthy caption to photos which appear to be taken on Hayes’ wedding day, the photographer wrote: “I didn’t know if I should post, but I now figure the more posts that the Hayes family sees to support them and give them strength telling them fond anecdotes about their Jimmy, the better.
“I am shocked and devastated for the entire Hayes/Valente family and their huge network of close friends.
