On Jan. 17, officers were called to a convenience store near Sunbeam and Craven roads about a person shot. They have now arrested a 21-year-old man on murder charges
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man has been arrested in connection with a January shooting that left a 40-year-old man dead, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).
On Jan. 17, officers were called to a convenience store near Sunbeam and Craven roads to a person shot. They found 40-year-old Trey Carter at the scene with “injuries consistent with having been shot.”
Detectives determined that prior to the shooting, Carter was involved in a verbal dispute with Calvin Mapson, 21. The investigation revealed that Mapson shot Carter during the argument.
Carter was taken to a local hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, but ultimately died from his injuries. The Duval County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled his death a homicide, JSO said.
Mapson has been arrested on murder charges and is currently being held in the Duval County Jail.
